After three days of competition, countless heats and raging emotions, the finalists of Itacoatiara Pro 2014 were decided today in Brazil.

Only sixteen riders remain in the competition and they are all battling for a slice of the US$ 40,000.00 in prize-money and the 1,800 points in world ranking points. The winner may be known as early as Tuesday, which is shaping up as possibly the final day of competition.

This morning started with a bit of wind, but throughout the day the conditions were constantly improving and the venue offered some excellent conditions with 2.0 to 2.5 m waves across the two round of competition.

Sergio Luis, got the two best wave combo of the contest so far including a 9.5 and 9.75.

“I can not even believe what’s happened, I didn’t think I could get out of that tube and in the end still managed a maneuver. I’m so happy for everything that has happened. I won a regional event here few days ago and now I’m up there with the best in the world, ” said Sergio

round 5

Pierre Louis Costes opened Round 6 winning his heat with 16.25 points out a possible of 20,0.

“I really enjoy competing here in Brazil. In previous years I managed good results, but this year I want to go even further. Tomorrow (Tuesday) has all the hallmarks to be an epic day and I hope to fight for the title, “, he added.

Today Brazilians dominated the heats in Itacoatiara and will feature prominently in the final day.

Guilherme Tamega (six times world champion) is a Brazilian who’s had the best result here in Itacoatiara.

In 2012, Tamega lost a decision to Australian Dave Winchester and this year expects improved results.

“The last day will be very challenging, but having waves forecast makes everything easier. My personal strategy will be different because it is a day with many heats and the body needs to be prepared, “said Tamega.

round 6

With the elimination of Ben Player in Round 6, Uri Valadao secured his passage to the round of 16 and also scored temporary leadership of the world rankings. Runner-up at the opening event at Pipeline in Hawaii, the Brazilian is the new number one on the tour and will now attempt to try to repeat his amazing run in 2008, when he became the IBA World champion.
