Day one of the 2014 APB Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival commenced with round one of the Men’s division hitting the water. The predominantly Chilean field of competitors came out in force to battle it out in small but very contestable wave conditions. In the first heat of the day, Osman Caraccioli dialed in a combined heat score of 12.65 to advance on to round two. Manuel Cepeda also advanced out of heat one.
Next up, in heat two, Sebastian Krefft and Matias Bernal found the scores they needed to finish first and second, respectively, and continue on to the next round. Heat three saw Victor Lopez convincingly win his heat with a combined heat score of 13.50 while Jose Dorganbide was able to secure the second advancing position. The big story of the day came in heat four, where Iquique’s young Yoshua Toledo registered the highest scores of the day, an 8.25 and a 9.00, on his way to a dominant heat win. Victor Muñoz would finish second to advance on to round two as well.
In the second half of round one action, Marcelo Toro penciled in a 14.15, the second highest combined heat total of the day, and won heat five. Keeping pace in the heat to pass through in second was Kevon Torres. Alamiro Escobar won heat six, with Christian Tapia taking the second advancing position. In heat seven, Sasha Damjanic nailed down two strong scores, including a 7.90 for his ARS, to take the heat win. Meanwhile, Esteban Pinto battled it out to hold on to second place and survive the heat. Finishing off round one, and wrapping up day one, Kenny Jonson put together a 12.75 for the heat win, with Gaston Rojas filling in the last remaining slot for round two.
