SHARK ISLAND CHALLENGE 2014 – STANDBY ALERT THURS 16TH OCT
The Inaugural Shark Island Challenge 2014 is on high alert with a swell approaching this week. It has been a long wait this year between APB World Tour events and timing the swell periods to align correct but finally the event is looking to run this week on Thursday 16th October.
The S.I.C is an APB (Association of Professional Bodyboarders) World Tour Specialty Bodyboarding Event. 24 National and International Riders are selected by Invitation to compete in the one-day Event at the Infamous Shark Island reef , Cronulla Point, Cronulla – Sydney.
At this stage due to the tidal and weather pattern, the event director stated today that Thursday morning was the shaping up to be the day of the week in terms of weather and waves. The Event will look to start around 8am and finish at 2pm.
Some of the world’s best athletes who have been invited are Dave Winchester, Ben Player (2013 & 2008 World Champion), Jake Stone, Andrew Lester, Alex Leon, Jeff Hubbard, Mitch Rawlins, Damian King and Josh Kaihe (2013 S.I.C Champion) plus many more talents.
For 18 years the S.I.C has been running and is regarded as the scariest and dangerous Bodyboarding wave location in the world. With a heaving slab of water that unloads on a treacherous reef only 100m from Cronulla Point, this mechanical wave creates a perfect aquatic arena where the best Bodboarders in the world will do battle against each other and the deadly SHARK ISLAND.
