Day three at the 2015 APB Itacoatiara Pro Brazil presented by Toyota SGA picked up where it left off the prior day. In quarter one, Brazilian Socrates Santana eliminated the last remaining Chilean, Nelson Flores. Hawaiian Tanner McDaniel continued his dominant form by defeating Igor Almeida in the next heat. Matheus Bastos won quarter three against Jerson Luis. Semifinal one was a rematch of sorts, with supergroms Socrates Santana and Tanner McDaniel facing off for the second time in two days. Much like their round four confrontation, the young Hawaiian would get the better of the young Brazilian to advance to the Pro Junior final. In semifinal two, a battle of Brazilians, Matheus Bastos came out on top over Gabriel Oliviera to earn his place in the final. The Pro Junior final will be run later in the week.
Following the Pro Junior semifinals, competition transitioned over to round one of the Pro Men’s division. The field of competitors for round one was stacked with Brazilians, many of whom worked their way through such as Leandro Chagas, Daniel Silveira, Eric Poseidon, Ailton Neto, Adriano Minguta, Guilherme Camera, Gabriel Popo, Jose William, Gabriel Braga, Gaston Rodriguez, Junior Souza, Lucio Santana, and Bruno Leitão. The international riders that were able to scrap it out in the deteriorating afternoon conditions included Chilean Nelson Arriaza who won heat two, South African Luke Kitchin who passed through heat six, and Joaquim Zapatel from Chile who made it through heat seven.
Competition was placed on hold in the early afternoon due to increased onshore winds and declining wave conditions. The event is on call for 6:30am local Brazil time for a potential 7am start and will resume with round two of Men’s competiton.
