Nazaré, September 29, 2015
The first day of the Nazaré Pro wasn’t exactly what the locals and traveling pro’s had hoped for with small clean peaks greeting organizers at first light.
Non-the-less the first two rounds of the women’s got underway and all three title contenders got through to tomorrows rounds.
Alexandra Rinder (Canary Islands) Isabella Sousa (Brazil) & Sari Ohhara (Japan) all finished second in their opening R2 heats.
Standout riders included Catarina Sousa (Port) Neymara Carvalho (Brazil) Ayaka Suzuki (Japan) and Joana Schenker (Port) who all won their opening heats and skipped into R4.
Local identity Dino Casmerio was visibly saddened with the waves and kept shaking his head all day.[df-gallery url=”http://apbtour.com/gallery/nazare-pro-day-1/”]
“This beach gets this small only a few times a year and it happens when the championship is in town, but I’m confident we will have some fun waves over the next two days” he laughed.
By the time the R1 Mens heats were listed to compete the tide had swallowed up what little swell was available.
The event will get underway tomorrow at 7.30am and organizers are expecting to cash in big time with a 12 hour day set to roll out.
