Why are you giving so much points to events because of the money prize and almost desconsidering wave quality? Can´t you see how bad it is for the sport having Pipeline rewarding the winner with 1000 points and Antofagasta giving 10000 points? Does it worth 10 times more to be a champion in Antofagasta than in Pipeline?
Hi Leonardo,
Pure wave quality does not provide a livelihood for our Athletes, The APB has entered a process that will deliver a full Grand Slam Series for Athletes and Fans within the next four years. Points for Prize Money must be the goal of all event promoters. This year we have had to make sure we have the events on Tour and to work closely with promoters to help them get the prize money for the Future. Giving points for wave location will permanently restrict our athletes from making an appropriate living from the sport. Cheers Tom Wilson
Hello Leonardo,
You’ve got a good point. What I’d like to ask you about your complaint is – what are YOU doing to help the sport?
If you can organise some more sponsors to make Pipe and Shark Island ect – bigger prizes than the Antofagasta – then please go ahead and contribute. Otherwise – enjoy what we have.
How can you provide 1000 points for a Pipeline winner, 4000 points for a Teahupo winner, and 10000 points for the Antofagasta winner? Do you really wish to completlety disconsider the wave quality for the ranking?
agree with you Coutinho.
making money the sole criteria for points/stars attribution does not look like a sustainable perspective to promote bodyboarding.
considering wave quality and wave “records” in bodyboarding history would really help designing a tour that focus on competition, thus on the recognition of athletes’ performance in their run toward the title and on the fans’ wish to watch high-level bodyboarding.
how much do event sponsors/investors care about tour design? let me guess…
and for the big brand(s) that want to sponsor the tour, it would make sence to propose the best possible tour design to promote the sport and the brand.
Puerto-Rico is in the Caribbean, not in Latin America dudes!
Hey Joh,
You are right it is in the Caribbean – But at present APB Latin America is the governing body. But into the future a Central America body would be more appropriate to represent the Region.
Thanks you for the informations Willow; Great job! Friendly…
You might take the tour to Costa Rica. Great waves all the year.
When do we get a APB app
Will this contest be held everyday from February 21-March 4th? Also, what are the times that the contest is held? Might come over from Maui to see the contest while its going on.
