Today the first round of the 2016 Sparkgreen Tahiti Challenge ran, the second stage of the Tour APB (April 18 – May 2). The waves were a meter and a half and, although not very large, where clean and provided plenty of barrels and ramps for competitiors.
In this first round of the main event, Garth McGregor was able to relegate Guilherme Tamega to round 2, and local Niko Richard forced the reigning world champion, Jared Houston, to compete in the repechage round.
Ben Player stood out in a heat with legends Mike Stewart and Dean Fergus, while the American Rusty Friesen in heat 14, relegated the Brazilian Jose Otavio and Australian Jase Finlay to a surf for survival in round 2.
Former world champions Pierre-Louis Costes and Amaury Lavernhe and the Chilean Alan Muñoz and the Moroccan Brahim Iddouch, were highlighted and recorded the highest scores of the day – 14:17, 17:50, 15:00 and 14.66 points, respectively.
