APB SOCIAL PROJECTS – BRASIL
Despite the lack of waves in Itacoatiara, Monday was quite busy on the beach for the third event of the APB World Tour. Some of the top athletes in the world participated in social action, introducing the sport to students of municipal schools. About 25 children had the opportunity to interact with idols like Jared Houston, Amaury Lavernhe, Jeff Hubbard, Dave Hubbard, Tanner McDaniel, Iain Campbell, Lewy Finnegan, Marta Leitão, Carina Carvalho, Alexandra Rinder, as well as Brazilian Kalani Lattanzi, Neymara Carvalho, Uri Valadão and Hermano Castro.
The schedule of activities, which had all the support of Furnas, began with the presentation of the athletes and, in sequence, a video with the basics manouvers of the sport was shown to the students. Athletes also spoke of their experiences around the world, the importance of studying and about the environment and ocean.
After a few questions, the children learned the basic movements of the sport in the sand and then immediately followed by the athletes, took to the ocean in Itacoatiara. “Actions like this are incredibly rewarding. And it’s very important, not only for the future of the sport, but for the life of these children. We have the opportunity to change the lives of some of them for the better. In sporting terms is also important, “said the world champion Jared Houston, from South Africa.
One of the most excited with the opportunity was Eduardo Marinho da Silva. The student did not know of the sport until today and in his debut he had the chance to learn with the best athletes in the world. “I want this for my life,” said Eduardo. “It was cool to participate with everyone. I want to do it again. It was so funny and i also got some waves, “said Eduardo, that at the end of the day even won a new bodyboard.
Over the years the Itacoatiara Pro has promoted social and environmental actions, always providing children projects like this Monday. “In 2000 Dudu Pedra and I started social work in Itacoatiara to teach some kids, and some of them are now professional athletes nowadays. The Education Department from Niteroi was essential for these children to be here today. It was a very special moment for all who were there, it was really exciting. The happiness of the athletes and children proved it. I hope we can do larger projects after this action, “celebrated Giuliano Lara, the event promoter.
And just as in Itacoatiara Pro, APB, has sought to promote social actions at all stages. “This action promoted by the Itacoatiara Pro organization is all we want in the stages of the Tour. Able to pass on knowledge to these children through our sport is amazing. We are doing this around the world. This is a project that consists of the union of education, health, sports practice and environmental care, “explains Alex Leon, CEO of APB.
New call on Tuesday:
After two days of waiting, on Tuesday there will be a new call for a possible restart of Itacoatiara Pro. However, the forecast changed over the last few days and it is likely that the event could possibly resume on Wednesday, 22.
