APB World Tour celebrates the
2017 Sintra Portugal Pro
The APB World Bodyboarding tour is heading back to Portugal for the 22nd running of the oldest event (without stoppage) on the World Bodyboarding Circuit, the
2017 Sintra Portugal Pro, between 12th and 17th September in Praia Grande’.
This years event will be organized for the second time by the Association of Bodyboard and Surf Coast Sintra (ABSCS), with the support of the Municipality of Sintra attracting about 140 athletes from more than 20 different countries in the Open Men, Women, Junior and dropknee (DK) divisions.
The Sintra Portugal Pro is renowned as the stop on the World Tour always supports all categories including Dropknee, explains João Campos, president of ABSCS:
“The Sintra Portugal Pro has enormous stature on APB World Circuit, for its antiquity but also the continued support for the Drop-knee circuit. This year, for the second time the organization will count on the invaluable support of the local authority and the amazing structure over the past 20 years that has made this event one of the most reputable in the world.”
Sintra also marks the opening of the European Triple-Crown, with two more events in Portugal, Nazaré and Viana do Castelo, and finally finished in Gran Canaria in October.
Campos explains that the objective of experienced machine behind the organization.
“This is, as I said, one of the most iconic events in the history of world bodyboarding and we want to continue this heritage. Our goal is to make this championship one of the biggest sporting events in Europe, taking advantage of the best of the tradition in Praia Grande & the fact that we have some of the best athletes in the world. ”
Among the names already confirmed for the Sintra Portugal Pro is the defending champion Pierre Louis Costes, who is in the race for his third world title (he was world champion in 2011/16). Pierre is a French bodyboarder who lives in Portugal for the last seven years, he has won in Sintra three times & is a strong candidate to win the world championship again in 2017.
Speaking about World champions Jared Houston (former South African world champion) is confirmed along with former female world champion Alexandra Rinder (Canary Islands) & Dave Hubbard (Hawaii) 6 times world champion Drop-knee amongst others.
New registrations can be made until 5pm September 11, at the event site.
Portuguese riders confirmed include the former National champion Hugo Pinheiro, as well as Manuel Centeno and Antonio Cardoso to name a few.
In women’s division, National and European champion Joana Schenker along with Teresa Almeida will also hit the waves of Praia Grande.
The Sintra Portugal Pro is the fifth event on the APB World men’s Tour, the third for the female World Tour and the only event confirmed on the world Drop-knee circuit.
