European Titles and Women’s World Championship to be contested on the Isle of Madeira, Portugal.

All the paths of the Women’s European Professional Tour  so as the World Championship will pass through Madeira from 19 to 24 September for the 4th edition of the Bodyboard Girls Experience.  The best bodyboarders on the planet will be on their way traveling to “The Pearl of the Atlantic” and will be host at São Vicente located in the north of the island, to contest the 2017 European and APB titles.

Among the 40 athletes already confirmed in the event stands the presence of the 4 times World Champion Isabela Sousa ( Brazil ), the current European Champion Joana Schenker ( Portugal ) and the 2014 ISA Gold Medallist Teresa Almeida ( Portugal ).

This year, the APB Women’s World Cup stages a novel event which has been going since 2013 receiving  the European Tour of our sport: Bodyboarding. More than a standard competition it is an “upgrade” of the competitive side of the sport, the Bodyboard Girls Experience has from its genesis  the dual mission of promoting the isle of Madeira as a tourist destination by its excellence, and at the same time promote bodyboarding  at a very high level.

Carina Carvalho, 9 times regional champion of Madeira, founder of this project, representative  and organizer, ASRAM (Surf Association of the Autonomous Region of Madeira), expresses sincerely a great optimism regarding the success of this 4th edition of Bodyboard Girls Experience:

“We really  have excellent feedback from the International Bodyboarding community and APB [World’s Bodyboarding Professional Governing Body]. For this we have been working to host for  the first year a stage of the world tour, we expect the international elite here. But, above all, in addition to the purely competitive aspect, we envisage 6 days filled with high quality waves in various spots in Madeira, from North to South of the island, tourism and leisure activities that arouse good vibrations to all participants and reveal  all the touristic and sporting potential of the island. ”

Joana Schenker, current European Champion and ranked fourth  in the 2016 World Championship is one of the favorites to stand at the podium in Madeira:  …”The Bodyboard Girls Experience is a very interesting event for me. It is the highest ranked event of the European Tour and, at the same time, scores count for the 2017 World Championship as a two stars event, which allows to improve my 9th place in after the Chilean leg… ”

Teresa Almeida, other Portuguese professional competitor, reinforces the  importance of Madeira:  …”Madeira will be important to discard my result from Chile [13th place] and it counts for both the European and World Tour. We can’t forget that it is the most important event of the ETB and the winner will be in great advantage for this year’s title. I want to make an excellent result to keep myself chasing this goal , and if possible,  make a better rank in the World Tour…”

The Bodyboard Girls Experience takes place between 19th and 24th September, the competition will take place on the weekend of 23rd and 24th, and the rest of the event window mostly is dedicated to promote the sport of Bodyboarding and the wonders of Madeira.

The Bodyboard Girls Experience is organized by A.S.R.A.M. (Association of Surfing of the Autonomous Region of Madeira) in partnership with Ludens Clube Machico and counts with  the support of the Regional Department of Economy, Tourism and Culture, the Regional Council for Youth and Sports, the Association Of Madeira for All, the City Council of São Vicente, Machico, Porto Moniz and Funchal, having as institutional partner the European Surfing Federation so as Portuguese Surfing Federation and the Association of Professional Bodyboarding.
