The best bodyboarder’s in the World are back to Portugal with the Sintra Portugal Pro 2018
- • Joana Schenker defends women’s world title
- • 150 of the best bodyboarders in the world in competition
- • Dropknee World Title to be decided in Praia Grande
Aug. 22, Sintra – Praia Grande on September 11th and 16th, will host the best 150 bodyboarders on the planet, with all local eyes on the portuguese Joana Schenker, reigning European and world champion who is currently ranked third in the APB WWT, with Japanese Ayaka Suzuki in command and Brazil’s Isabela Sousa in second.
In the men’s competition, South Africa’s Ian Campbell is looking to repeat his 2017 world title and Sintra Portugal Pro title as well, which he won beating Brazil’s Uri Valadão last year.
For Joana Schenker, the Sintra Portugal Pro is the “most special event”: “The Sintra Portugal Pro means so much to me. It was the first world tour stage I competed on and the one that opened up the door of the world title for me, after I won, last year.”
An additional point of interest this year will be, again, the decision of the Dropknee world title, with Hawaian Sammy Morretino trying to hold on to his crown, although with strong opposition from his countryman Dave Hubbard, also confirmed for Sintra.
The event organisers – Association of Bodyboard and Surf of Sintra’s Coast (ABSCS) is glad to host this historical event, says João Campos, its president: “Once again, we are grateful to have the honour to organize this event, one of the biggest of its kind in the world, and with the possibility of playing such an important role in the decision of world titles. An event that would be impossible without the priceless support of the Sintra Municipality, and a labour of love from all our staff, sponsors and partners.”
