The trials for the main event at Pipe are taking a slight twist with Drop-Knee now the main focus of the competition. Mike and the crew have been inundated with requests from DK riders so the majority of the trial’s day will mostly focus on this genre.
The main event window will take place from February 24th to March 8th with the trials set to take place between Feb 20,21 & 22 at Kea’au on the Westside. These trials will be open to ALL RIDERS wishing to compete in Men, Women or DK.
To enter the trial’s go to www.apbtour.com/registration entries close Feb 22nd, 2019.
This year’s Men’s event will be rated on the 2019 QEST Tour with a 3-Star rating confirmed.
The event will also cater for Women & Drop-Knee, with an opportunity to surf Pipe for the Top 4 in DK division & Top 3 in Women’s (Women’s World Champion Ayaka Suzuki has already securing a spot in the final).
Mike say that things are coming together nicely, and that the Top 4 Women have also been invited to compete against the Men, making for the ultimate “Battle of the Sexes”.
“We wanted to give the girls the opportunity to do something totally different”, said Mike.
“It’s going to be a great spectacle that’s for sure”, he added.
The 40-man format for the Men’s QEST event will be as follows:
APB Top 24
4 wildcards (Women Too 4)
Top 4 trialsists
20-minute heats with 4-man heats.
The event will also be webcast live at www.apbtour.com/live as well as several other social media platforms and free-to-air channels.
Entries for the event will be open in the coming days and APB encourage all riders to support this important event.
